Claude in Chrome Extension Disconnected

Problem Description

When using Claude Cowork, you may encounter the following error:

Claude in Chrome Extension Disconnected

The connection to Claude in Chrome was lost.

To reconnect:

  1. Restart Chrome completely (close all windows)
  2. If that doesn't work, also restart Claude Desktop

If the issue persists, verify the extension is logged in.

Cause

This error occurs when the Claude Chrome extension is not installed or has been disconnected from your browser.

Step 1: Install Claude Chrome Extension

Visit one of the following links to install the Claude Chrome extension:

Step 2: Sign In to the Extension

After installation, make sure to sign in to your Claude account in the extension.

Step 3: Restart Chrome

Close all Chrome windows completely and reopen the browser.

Step 4: Verify Connection

Return to Claude Cowork and verify that the connection has been restored.

Troubleshooting

If the issue persists after installing the extension:

  1. Check extension status: Click the extension icon in Chrome toolbar to ensure it's active and logged in
  2. Clear browser cache: Sometimes cached data can cause connection issues
  3. Disable conflicting extensions: Other extensions might interfere with Claude
  4. Restart Claude Desktop: If you're using Claude Desktop alongside the browser, restart it as well
  5. Reinstall the extension: Remove and reinstall the Claude Chrome extension
